Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

The MTSS journey in Pomona Unified is underway! We are eagerly working together to create a Multi-Tiered System of Supports with a foundation of equity and excellence for every student, in every classroom, every day! The MTSS Task Force met monthly to explore our current systems, processes, and strategies to systematize and refine our practices. Our MTSS journey continues as district leadership continues to refine processes and identify practices that impact student achievement.

PUSD MTSS DEFINED

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) is an integrated, systemic framework guided by data, grounded in evidence-based culturally responsive practices, and committed to teaching the whole child. MTSS ensures that ALL students receive equitable academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports that are timely and responsive in order to achieve college and career readiness.

MTSS GOAL

In California, MTSS core components work together to create an integrated, comprehensive framework that focus on the California State Standards, core instruction, differentiated learning, student-centered learning, individualized student needs, and the alignment of systems necessary for academic, behavior, and social success. MTSS offers the potential to create needed systematic change through intentional design and redesign of services and supports that quickly identify and match the needs of all students in general and special education contexts.

A Message From Our Directors:

PUSD’s strategic plan, the Promise of Excellence, outlines four focus areas to ensure success: Talent Development, Student Success, Community Partnerships, and a Culture of Excellence. PBIS is designed specifically to support student success, connect with families and the community, and is committed to ongoing Professional Learning to build staff capacity as well as talent development in order to create a distinguished culture of excellence within the Pomona Unified School District. The support systems within the tiered framework of PBIS ensure that communities of practice are put in place, comprehensive, monitored, and evaluated to determine the fidelity of tiered implementation. After all our commitment is “Equity and Excellence for every student in every classroom, every day.”
